"Kolmannskuppe" through sore eyes

It's been a while since I posted something on my blog. Either my life just started getting boring or work has kept me so busy that I cannot find time to do stuff and upload stuff anymore. Funny enough I am on a working trip and stuck in a little town called Luderitz. A drinking town with a fishing problem as the locals call it. I am not complaining because it gave me the opportunity to see one of the attractions in Namibia that I always wanted to see, the ghost town of Kolmanskop. When I left Cape Town yesterday I was recovering from an eye infection. Maybe that was not a good idea to get on the plane because it seems like it has gone from bad to worse. Mix that with all the sand that is blowing across Luderitz today and you have a recipe for really bad eyesight. My camera however still works fine so I took 2 hours off and ticked off another location from my "still-to-see" list.....

The Black Box

A friend of mine send me this picture to show me where my topbox was lying after I "bought some land" in Namibia just over a year ago. I look rather fine there trying to call whoever I could get hold of in the middle of nowhere, but the pain was really bad. It was actually that night that I thought I was going to die after I passed out in the shower. The topbox itself also probably did not know what had hit him. I was rather surprised though that my SLR camera walked off with no injuries. It was in my topbox at the time. Maybe I should call it the "black box" seeing that the contents survived but the carrier didn't. My bike was sadly written off  a few weeks later.

So that is the spot where my trip to the Victoria Falls ended....

To Vic Falls and Back

Tomorrow morning at 7 am I will be leaving on my bike trip to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and back. We are three friends from Cape Town hoping to cover the 6000km + distance in 14 days...more or less. The map below shows our planned route. Due to no connectivity I will not be updating our trip as we go along, but I do hope that after our safe return I would be able to give feedback on the trip as well as some pictures.

We will be covering 4 countries (excluding south Africa) and will go through Namibia twice. I have not been to any of the four countries before and is really looking forward to meet my "neighbours". I believe after crossing 6 border post I will get a good impression of how kind they are... ;-)
